1967 saw the start of this event, aimed at developing schools golf. St. Joseph's CBS in Drogheda claimed top honours in four of the first five years in the Championship. They have not won the event since 1971.
In recent years, Summerhill College Sligo have proven to be amongst the strongest in the competition with wins in 1985, 1986, 1988, 1997, 2000, 2001 and 2007.
