Spanish To Sponsor Mixed
The Golfing Union of Ireland is delighted to announce an agreement with the Spanish Tourist Board to sponsor the Irish Mixed Foursomes.
Albert Lee, Hon. Secretary of the Golfing Union of Ireland said “This is a great step forward for the Irish Mixed Foursomes because such a prestigious and much loved event for club golfers deserves to have a quality sponsor supporting it, and that is what we have now with the Spanish Tourist Board.
Speaking of the new sponsorship Gonzalo Ceballos Watling, Director of the Spanish Tourist Board in Ireland said “We are proud to sponsor the Irish Mixed Foursomes and to encourage Irish golfers to explore the more than 420 golf courses in the Royal Spanish Golf Federation.”
“Spain, as one of the world's leading golf destination with nearly a million golfing tourists, offers an extraordinary variety of golfing experiences from mountain areas to coastal courses on both public courses and competition courses.”
Connections between Ireland and Spain facilitate the Irish golfer visit with two hour flights to northern regions of Galicia and Santander, the southern region of AndalucĂa, the Balearic islands or the Mediterranean courses of Catalonia. The Canary Islands' courses also offer exciting golf to complement a sun holiday. Gonzalo also said that “Spain also offers great things to do "after" golfing and that there is considerable value to be had this year, particularly when including accommodation. So there is a good reason for you to say " I need Spain"”
The Irish Mixed Foursomes was established in 1972 and was won in 2011 by City of Derry Golf Club. The National Finals for 2012 take place at Clontarf Golf Club in September.
