Win in Spain for Fred Daly Champions
The Fred Daly winning team of 2011, Carton House Golf Club, overcame the Scottish, English and Welsh Club Champions to win the Home Nations Club Championship Final at Antequera Golf Club, Spain this week.
Carton House beat Craigielaw of Scotland in the Final by 4.5 matches to 1.5.
Being unbeaten out of the pool with Celtic Manor, Bramshaw and Deeside, the Carton House team were seen as the favourites to take the title on their first visit to these championships. The other pool of Craigielaw, West Essex, Mould and Mallow was a very tight affair with Craigielaw winning through on a count back of individual winning matches.
After four days with an extremely tough course, winds and rain saw two tired teams tee up in singles medal match play. Carton House’s six boys were under pressure thru the 12th being down in four matches. However the mental strength of the Irish representatives came through with five holes to play.
The Home Nations Club Championship Final trophy was presented to Conor Gorevan, Team Captain, at a celebration gala dinner afterwards.
