Ulster Snatch Victory at Interpros

Ulster Snatch Victory at Interpros

Young Mark Rea won't forget the last few holes of his match for Ulster in this year's Under 15 Interprovincials at City of Derry for a long time.

Three holes down to Leinster's Conor Purcell after 14 holes, Rea won the last four holes of his match (birdie, birdie, par, birdie) to give Ulster their first win in this series.

It all came down to the last match, and fittingly it came down to the last hole. Both players found the centre of the fairway with their drives, and Rea played first finding the green just past pin high, some 15ft from the flag.

Purcell's second shot hit the green and checked quickly, ending up on the fringe some 25ft from the hole.

His birdie attempt stopped agonisingly short, and Rea found the back of the hole for his birdie to seal the win for Ulster.

Munster almost spoiled Ulster's party by beating Connacht in the other encounter of the day, but their final total of 7.5 matches won against that of Leinster (8) and Ulster (9).
