Promoting Club Membership

07 December 2009
At the beginning of this year, the GUI compiled results of a Club Membership survey, completed by 25% of selected clubs across the four Provinces, which revealed that golfers between the ages of 51 and 65 accounted for 30% of the membership while the next highest group aged between 31 and 50 accounted for 29%.
In the meantime there has been a serious decline in club membership due to the recession and the GUI, in partnership with the ILGU and PGA Irish Region, has compiled a small booklet, entitled ‘Promoting Golf Membership’ which provides some guidelines for our affiliated clubs under two main headings – ‘Retention of Members’ and ‘Attracting new Members’.
The booklet aims to assist clubs in dealing with this challenge. It is by no means exhaustive, nor is it a blueprint – rather a tool to stimulate new thinking and debate at Committee level, and within the membership.
