Interprovincial Championships

Having defeated Munster and Leinster on the opening two days Ulster (pictured) breezed past Connacht – by nine and a half matches to one and a half – on day three to retain the Senior Interprovincial Championship at the wonderfully presented Ballinrobe Golf Club.
Conditions were far removed from the wet and dreary weather that saw volunteers from the Club out with squeegees on virtually every green to ensure that the singles matches were completed on day two. Waterproofs and umbrellas were replaced by short sleeves and sunscreen as Ulster enjoyed a clean-sweep of morning foursomes to take a near unassailable 4-0 lead into the into the singles matches.
Connor Doran (Banbridge) defeated Eddie McCormack by 5/4 to finish the week top points scorer with six wins from six matches. Big margin wins followed from Alan Dunbar, Rory Leonard and Stephen Crowe to settle the tie early in the afternoon. Co. Sligo’s Barry Anderson recorded a noteworthy 1 hole win over Paul Cutler in the top match.
Leinster scored their first victory of the week with a seven matches to four win over Munster – featuring wide margin singles wins for Paul Dunne, Des Morgan, Eoin Arthurs and Rory McNamara who came in as a late replacement for the injured Irish Close champion Dara Lernihan.
Despite the defeat Munster finished runners up in the Championship.

Leinster won their third Boys Interprovincial title in four years after battling to a final day half against Ulster.
The teams shared the morning foursomes one and a half matches apiece but Ulster surged ahead winning three of the first four singles matches. Jack Hume – holder of three provincial boys titles – put a point on the board for Leinster while Conor Glynn added a second with a 5/4 win over Adam Brown. Graham Donohue and Ryan McKinstry halved leaving Leinster requiring a half in the bottom match to retain the title.
Leinster’s Adam Hanley was one down with two to play against Jamie Richardson but won the seventeenth with a par before holing from 30 feet for birdie on the final green to win his match and secure the trophy for Leinster. the match by one hole.
Munster defeated Connacht to claim the runners-up spot.
