Ivan Dickson - RIP
Ivan Dickson, General Secretary of the Golfing Union of Ireland from 1983 to 1996 has passed away after a short illness.
He had served as an Honorary Delegate to Central Council from his retirement in 1996 to the present day and attended GUI National and Provincial events right up to his death. Prior to his appointment to the role of General Secretary, he was Secretary of the Leinster Branch.
Ivan took up the role of General Secretary from Bill Menton, and was succeeded in the role by the current General Secretary, Seamus Smith.
“Ivan was, without question, one of the most loved and efficient administrators in golf, and in his early days was also a very keen golfer, playing off ten handicap at his beloved Grange Golf Club. He will be sadly missed” said the President of the GUI, Sean MacMahon.
Our deepest sympathies go to his family and friends at this time.
There won't be a funeral service for Ivan. Instead there will be memorial service in about six weeks time.
